Deanna Cormier

Deanna Cormier (ADAPT, ADTA, RAD)

Certified Competition Adjudicator: Ballet; Tap; Jazz; Acro Dance; Contemporary; Lyrical; Musical Theatre

Deanna’s dance education started in 1989 when she took her first ballet class and her passion for the arts began. Since then she has never stopped training. Deanna started teaching in 2003 and fell in love with dance in a different way, empowering youth through movement.

In December 2019, Deanna traveled to Guinea to complete the MindLeaps train the trainers program, working with both Guinean teachers and students. She saw firsthand how dance can improve the lives of vulnerable youth in Africa. She hopes to travel to another African country with MindLeaps very soon.

Deanna is currently teaching at St. Lawrence College in Brockville, Ontario with the Music Theatre program. She is currently teaching ballet and jazz and has also taught tap, modern and a dual credit Musical Theatre program run through SCWI/PASS for the past ten years. She has also been teaching dance at various studios and school in Ottawa since 2003.

In 2011, she received her teaching certificates from the ADAPT (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers) Teachers Training School in Jazz and Tap and the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies. She has entered students into both ADAPT Jazz and Tap and RAD Ballet exams and have received exceptional examination results. Deanna is also ADTA Junior Acro certified.

Deanna is a mentor for RAD students completing their CBTS teaching program and an ADTA Acro teachers’ mentor.

She recently completed the Benesh Movement Notation for Ballet course run through the RAD. She is Silver Swans (RAD) certified and Progressive Ballet Technique (PBT) certified. Deanna is an ADA certified adjudicator.

Deanna has an extreme passion for dance and theatre, and a high level of experience and education.
