Joy McIlwain has been involved in the dance industry since the age of three and feels blessed to be one of the fortunate ones who have been able to live their dream!
Trained in Calgary at the Allan Cozzubbo Academy of Dance, Joy received her Advanced certificate with Honours in both the RAD and ISTD Ballet syllabus.  She  completed her Jazz and Tap with Al Gilbert and BATD syllabus and was honored to be included in Mr. Gilbert’s first session of Grade 9 Tap! Joy’s love of the stage lead to her performing with the Calgary City Ballet under the direction of Laszlo Tamasik, the Calgary Opera, Terpsichore Productions, promotional work for SunIce, Miss Teen Calgary, choreography for numerous stage productions, as well as the Opening/Closing Ceremonies for the Red Deer Alberta Winter Games.
Joy holds her Registered Teaching status with the RAD, ADAPT Tap & Jazz, has completed her ACRO Dance Adjudicator program and is a certified ADTA Instructor.  She has now owned ~Joy’s School of Dance~ in Innisfail for over 30 years and is very proud of the well-rounded,  technical dancers she has had the privilege of training … many of who have continued on to train and perform with various Cruiselines,  Harbour Dance Centre, the Source, Alberta Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Toronto Dance Theatre, Theatre Calgary, AMDA New York … as well as having many former students carry on their love of dance through opening their own private studios!
Joy is excited to share any of her knowledge and love of dance with you and is always honored to encourage all dancers as well as teachers to truly dance from your heart, and always ~
